Service

Our most recent service project started during the Spring '09 semester and turned out very successful. Boxes For Troops is a project we started that collects monetary, food, and any other types of donations to send to our troops overseas. During the project, we were overjoyed to see how many people were willing to donate to this great cause. We collected over $450 in monetary donations, sending 27 boxes of the donations, including food and other various items. Pictured is a letter from a soldier that sent us his unit patch and his MP patch in his thanks for the project.

If you have a troop overseas you'd like us to send a box to this semester, please contact the Community Outreach Chair (Select "Officers" under the Sisters tab)
Since our colony installation, we have participated in the American Cancer Society's international movement to fight cancer. Relay For Life is not only a fundraiser, but an event that gives hope to all those who have been directly or indirectly victimized by cancer. This past year we exceeded our goal and raised over $1000! We will continue in years to come to contribute to this global movement to put an end to cancer.

Every year we have supported the Virginia Tech community through our participation in the Big Event, a day wide service event sponsored by the University. Teams are assigned various tasks ranging from cleaning up playgrounds to raking leaves.
The sisters enjoy giving the animals the attention they deserve. The Rho Chapter supports the Humane Society of Montgomery County throughout the year both by volunteering hours at the shelter and collecting donations. In the past we have also participated in the Humane Society's sponsored dog wash.

We have also participated and supported other philanthropies and service events:
  • In spring of 2009, 2008, and 2006 we participated in Kappa Delta's 5K for the Prevention of Child Abuse.
  • Also in spring of 2009 and 2006, Delta Gamma's philanthropy, Anchor Splash, to fundraise and help the blind in the community.
  • In fall of 2008, 2007, and 2006 we participated in Chi Omega's philanthropy, flag football, in support of their national philanthropy, Make-A-Wish. Make-A-Wish is a foundation dedicated to granting the wishes of children with life-threatening diseases.
  • The Epsilon and Zeta Class Projects helped donate money and items for Cornerstone, a housing program for women who were victims of domestic violence.
  • We have also participated in Chi Omega's spring 2006 philanthropy, Hawaii Chi-O (a volleyball tournament), and got 2nd place! Proceeds from this philanthropy also went to Make-A-Wish.
