Philanthropy

Take it to the MAX

Take it to the MAX is Rho chapter's annual philanthropy created in the memory of Maxine Turner, a colony founder. Seven sororities, fraternities, and clubs this past year came to participate in our week-long schedule of events. The week consisted of a Karaoke night, a TCBY night, and a Dodgeball Tournament to end the competition. We had a great run this past year and will post this upcoming year's information up when available, so check back soon for dates! If you have any questions or would like to participate in the annual event please contact our philanthropy chair, Corin Shirley at corin@vt.edu.

All proceeds benefit the Maxine S. Turner Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JRDF) is a non-profit organization that raises money for research in hopes of finding a cure for diabetes. Since its founding JDRF has awarded over $900 million to diabetes research.
  • We have supported the JDRF, our chosen philanthropy, for the G.E.R.M.A.N. Club's Gold Rush during the past three years.
  • In 2006 we raised $825 in about a week, and we won the event, earning over $1500.
  • In 2007 we chose the same charity and set our fundraising goals higher than before. We ultimately raised over $3,700 in a week's span and were once again crowned the victors of Gold Rush!
  • We've continued to participate in Gold Rush, becoming the champions for the third year in a row in 2008 and earning second place in 2009, collectively donating nearly $10,000 for JDRF!

Every year Delta Gamma sorority heads a weeklong event to raise money for Service for Sight. The main events include a talent show and pool games. The contestants (other Greek organizations) perform dance routines and other various acts in front of a very large crowd composed of their competitors and friends. Fourteen of our sisters worked on a dance routine for weeks leading up to the talent show this past year and joined in on the pool games that came later in the competition. The philanthropy every year is a huge success for Delta Gamma that gives our sisters a great way to bond while raising money for such a great cause.
In the past few years we've participated in the philanthropy sponsored by the fraternity Delta Sigma Phi, Egyptian Expedition. Now the Egyptian Expedition raises money for the fraternity's national philanthropy, The March of Dimes. The March of Dimes fights to save babies from premature birth by directing donations towards research, community service, and advocacy programs.
